JJHuddle’s Division VI Power Poll: Power struggle; this division is loaded

JJHuddle Power Poll Division VI

This Top 10 wreaks of tradition and state titles: Delphos St. John’s, Mogadore, Newark Catholic, Marion Local, Norwalk St. Paul, Wynford, Lehman Catholic, Covington…they are all there. Where exactly they’re ranked, well that’s another story.

1. Delphos St. John’s
Five seconds. That’s all that separates the Blue Jays from going for their third straight state title. This team is hungry and on a mission. Did we mention they are stacked as well?
Opener: 8/28 vs Lima Central Catholic

2. Ada
The Bulldogs are suddenly a state power. Now if they could just get past Delphos St. John’s, who they’ve lost to in the playoffs the last two years. Is this the season? The firepower is there.
Opener: 8/27 vs Dola Hardin Northern

3. Norwalk St. Paul
The Flyers broke through for their first state title last year. Question this year is do they get back to their seventh straight regional final? We say “Yes.”
Opener: 8/28 at Sandusky St. Mary

4. Marion Local
The Flyers made the playoffs last year at 5-5 and made it to the state semifinals before losing to fellow Midwest Athletic Conference foe Delphos St. John’s. This year the Flyers are capable of another run to the state semis – and possibly farther.
Opener: 8/27 vs Lima Shawnee

5. Newark Catholic
According to other coaches in Region 23, THIS is the team they are looking out for.
Opener: 8/27 at Harvest Prep

6. Bucyrus Wynford
The Royals own the state’s longest regular season winning streak (38). Don’t be surprised if they make it 48.
Opener: 8/27 vs River Valley

7. Covington
The Buccs have long been denied extensive playoff
runs by MAC schools. Covington might finally have the roster to match up
with those powers though. This could be the program’s best team in a
long time – and that’s saying something.
Opener: 8/27 vs New

8. Lehman Catholic
See Covington. Kaleb Goins is a difference maker.
Opener: 8/27 vs Anna

9. Mogadore
Although there are several questions surrounding the Wildcats, the tandem of seniors Jake McAvinew and Kodey Chance deserves recognition – and a spot in the Top 10. These guys are that good.
Opener: 8/27 vs Linsley School (West Virginia)

10. Bridgeport
The Bulldogs have been tabbed by many as a team of concern. The Smelley brothers (Chris, Curt and Cole) also deserve some ink.
Opener: 8/26 at Steubenville Catholic Central
