* Outlook – The Wildcats will lack some experience after graduating 15 seniors, but they return some heavy-hitting contributors from last year. After beating Columbus Eastmoor 28-14 in round one of the playoffs, they fell to Columbus Watterson.

“I’m very optimistic that we can surprise some people to be quite honest with you,” Napoleon head coach Tory Strock said. “Division III was just brutal last year. Columbus Watterson, they beat us 6-3, man for man. They just had studs all over the place. We fought and clawed and scraped. We feel like we’re battle tested.”

They’ll need to draw on that experience to make up for the roster filled with new faces.

“Obviously, we’re going to have to grow up fast,” Strock says. “We’re going to be inexperienced, but our off-season has been tremendous. We’ve got some young kids ready to step up. Even though we’re going to lack some game experience, I think our kids will hit. This group of kids … they know how to win and what it takes to win.

Miller will have to step up.

“He didn’t see time on Friday nights much last year, but he’s real talented,” Strock said.

Sonnenberg will provide punch at fullback/linebacker.

Said Strock: “We’re really counting on him for big things.”

* Schedule – Napoleon’s will meet their biggest rivals on their home turf during Week 1.

“In my opinion, it’s one of the great rivalries in the state of Ohio,” says Coach Strock on his matchup with Defiance. “It’s an Ohio State-Michigan-type rivalry.”

Napoleon knocked off Defiance 10-7 on a field goal last year. Expect fireworks this fall.
