Going into today every in-state prospect that Jim Tressel had offered
a scholarship that had picked a college had committed to Ohio State.
However, the streak has been stopped as linebacker Trey DePriest
announced moments ago that he has committed to Alabama over Ohio State.

Jim Tressel and his coaching staff are rounding up a super
2011 recruiting class. However, the one position the OSU staff has not
been able to address is linebacker.

The hole remains as the top linebacker in Ohio,
Trey DePriest (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield),
announced moments ago that he has committed to Alabama over the Buckeyes.

Perhaps looking ahead to an early entry to the NFL, DePriest said he
plans to “spend the next three to four years at Alabama.”

DePriest made his announcement from a BW3 Wild Wings in Springfield.

DePriest had dozens of scholarship offers including Ohio State,
Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame, Pitt, West Virginia, Stanford, Oklahoma,
Michigan, Virginia Tech and Cincinnati. However, he narrowed his
decision down to the Buckeyes and Crimson Tide before deciding to head
south to play his college football.

After losing out on the top linebacker in the state of Ohio last year when Jordan Hicks (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota
West) committed to Texas over Ohio State
and Florida,
Tressel had hoped to keep DePriest at home this year.

But Tressel was fighting an uphill battle as all signs in recent
weeks had pointed to the Tide winning out in this battle.

The 6-foot-1 and 215-pound DePriest has been a varsity starter in
football, basketball and baseball since his freshman year. He is the
No. 6 overall prospect in the Buckeye State.

DePriest, who plans to graduate in January, is a solid student
sporting a 3.3 GPA and an 18 on the ACT.

Kurelic’s Comment: For months it appeared DePriest
was headed to Alabama,
so his announcement today was certainly not a shock. Now the OSU staff
focuses their linebacker recruiting efforts on Conner Crowell (Waldorf,
Md./North Point), Ejuan Price (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills), Kent
Turene (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla./Boyd Anderson) and Andre Sturdivant
(Cleveland, Ohio/Glenville) who could end up as a rush linebacker or
defensive end in college.
