The Cavaliers mantra the past four seasons has been “Five Yards and a Cloud
of Dust”. Don’t expect anything different this season. Since head coach Dick Roll (33-15) took over in 2006, Lehman has been to the playoffs each year.

*Outlook –
The Cavs mantra the past four seasons has been “Five Yards and a Cloud of Dust”. Don’t expect anything different this season. In other words, if it isn’t broken, why fix it? Since head coach Dick Roll (33-15) took over in 2006, Lehman has been to the playoffs each year. They lost in the state semifinals to Delphos St. John’s in 2008 and suffered a first round loss to Marion Local in 2009.

The expectations are high in the Lehman Camp with eight starters returning on offense and six on defense. However, once again, the keys will be conditioning and injuries with only a 40-player roster.

This senior class has played together since fourth grade, the first year of the Lil Cavs youth football program. And two of those players are Goins and Huston. Goins is the backfield beast with 3,020 yards rushing and 46 TDs for his career. Huston plays both ways on the line and recorded 62 tackles and eight QB sacks.

Said, Roll: “Both Goins and Huston are on the bubble between D-I and D-II colleges. They have recieved offers from both levels.”

The offense will get plenty of added support from Slagle (66-122, 849 yards, 54%), Vondenhuevel and Indian Lake transfer Ratliff. Ratliff played QB for the Lakers last season.

The defense is solid behind Schmitz (11 sacks), Pulfer and Vernon.

“Our goals are to win the Metro Buckeye League and make the playoffs. And just see what happens,” Roll said. “We are solid up front and Slagle has a year under his belt.”

Roll stressed, “If we can only figure out a way to beat those MAC schools.”

During Roll’s tenure, the Cavs are 0-6 against the MAC, including 0-4 against Anna in season-openers.

*Schedule –
Lehman plays only four home games this season, but one of them is Week 6 against D-V Columbus Ready. The Silver Knights lost to Anna 20-17 in the first round of the 2009 playoffs.
