If you’re looking for the state’s longest regular season unbeaten
streak
, it resides in Bucyrus at Wynford High School. The Royals have
won 38 straight
games dating back to a 28-7 loss at Sycamore Mohawk in
Week 2 of the 2006 season. It’s likely that string gets stretched to 48 this fall.

* Outlook – If you’re looking for the state’s longest regular season unbeaten streak, it resides in Bucyrus at Wynford High School. The Royals have won 38 straight games dating back to a 28-7 loss at Sycamore Mohawk in Week 2 of the 2006 season.

It’s likely that string gets stretched to 48 this fall.

There are holes – mainly the two huge ones voided by current University of Kentucky freshmen Tyler Brause (QB) and Teven Eatmon (OL) – but this is Wynford and there is talent returning.

Head coach Travis Moyer enters his 12th season with a 95-26 record at the school. Moyer said the goal is “to give ourselves an opportunity to compete for championships.”

Over the last five years – a stretch in which they’ve won 49 of 50 regular season games – the Royals have captured five straight North Central Conference titles and are riding a 40-game NCC unbeaten streak.

Unlike year’s past where Wynford’s offense has received most of the recognition, this year the defense should headline.

The Royals only allowed only 9 points per game in the regular season last year and should post similar numbers. Chatlin is back after making 105 tackles and two interceptions, while Rall and Luke Miller had 85 and 84 tackles, respectively. Each of them had two picks.

Glowaski (50 tackles, three INTs), Caleb Miller (two INTs), Eckert (16 tackles), Rowland (14 tackles), Heinlen (13 tackles), Butler (22 tackles, five sacks) and Collene (27 tackles) are all seasoned.

In all, seven Royals return who registered at least one interception last year.

Offensively, Chatlin gets his turn at QB where he rushed for 301 yards and three TDs on 32 carries last year as Brause’s back-up.

Caleb and Luke Miller will look to get a number of touches as well.

* Schedule – For some reason Mohawk always plays Wynford tougher than anyone else. Other than that, don’t expect the Royals to have much trouble until the postseason.
