Alexander had a historical season last year by earning the school’s
first playoff berth in history. The Spartans reward was a first round
game at Amanada-Clearcreek and a swift exit. Regardless, the experience
should pay dividends to a program on the rise.

2009 Record: 8-3

* Players To Watch – RB Cody Lawson (5-10, 175, Sr.); QB Mike Chapman (6-1, 185, Sr.); K/P Josiah Yazdani (5-10, 180, Sr.); LB Sean Worley (6-0, 220, Sr.); LB Derek Cravens (5-11, 190, Sr.); OT/DT Mike Douglas (6-2, 290, Jr.); OT/DT Tyler Davis (6-4, 275, Jr.)

* Outlook – Alexander had a historical season last year by earning the school’s first playoff berth in history. The Spartans reward was a first round game at Amanada-Clearcreek and a swift exit. Regardless, the experience should pay dividends to a program on the rise.

The Spartans rebounded from a 4-6 finish in 2008 to post last year’s 8-3 tally. They also beat rival Nelsonville-York for the first time ever.

Success this year will mean another big season by Lawson, who is used to them. The two-time All-Ohioan enters this season with over 2,500 career rushing yards. How good is he? Just ask Nelsonville-York whom he torched for three TDs last year.

Douglass and Davis are two sizeable lineman to keep an eye on.

* Schedule –
The Spartans only regular season loss last year was a 33-7 setback to rival Athens. The rematch – which is circled – comes in Week 8. Alexander could be 7-0 by then. The following week the Spartans face another rival in Nelsonville-York – and that one is on the road. Talk about tough back-to-back games.
