Westerville Central tight end Nick Vannett has committed to Ohio
State over scholarship offers from Penn State, Michigan State,
Wisconsin, Pitt, Purdue, Oregon, Virginia Tech, Arizona,
West Virginia, Northwestern, Kentucky, Indiana and many others. He’s OSU’s 16th commitment for 2011.
Tight end Jeff Heuerman (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) was the first class of 2011 tight end to commit to the Buckeyes. Westerville Central’s Nick Vannett has become the second.
The Buckeyes did not sign a tight end in their 2010 recruiting class. So they wanted to land two outstanding prospects at the position for their 2011 class.
They have now done so and both were in Columbus last Saturday.
Westerville Central tight end Nick Vannett has committed to Ohio State over scholarship offers from Penn State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Pitt, Purdue, Oregon, South Florida, Virginia Tech, Arizona, West Virginia, Boston College, Duke, Northwestern, Kentucky, Indiana, Bowling Green, Toledo and many others.
Vannett said his decision came down to Ohio State, Wisconsin, Tennesse and Virginia Tech, adding that one thing stood out in the Bucks’ favor.
“I would say it’s the people – the coaches, the players and the recruits,” Vannett said. “I went down for the camp last weekend and met a lot of nice people.”
Vannett, who is Buckeye commitment No. 16 for an Ohio State recruiting class expected to number at least 22 come National Signing Day, grew up an OSU fan.
“It was a dream come true when Ohio State offered a scholarship,” he said.
The 6-foot-6 and 230-pound Vannett worked out at the Ohio State Senior Advanced Camp on Saturday.
Also working out at the camp was the Buckeyes’ other tight end commitment Paul Heuerman (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier). Vannett is slightly taller and thicker than Heuerman, but Heuerman had the faster 40-yard dash time. Both are big pieces to an outstanding Buckeye recruiting class.
On Tuesday morning Bucknuts.com had a story saying it looks like Tressel will add three more commitments this week.
The first came late Tuesday afternoon when rising junior linebacker Joshua Perry (Olentangy, Ohio/Olentangy) committed to the Buckeyes.
Vannett made it two-for-two with his commitment today.
On Friday morning Tressel and his staff look to make it three-for-three when defensive back Ron Tanner (Columbus, Ohio/Eastmoor) announces his college choice.
Kurelic’s Comment: At one point early in the spring some Buckeye fans had given up hope of landing even one outstanding tight end for Ohio State’s 2011 recruiting class.
They now have two and have to feel good about the position for the next few seasons.
Both Vannett and Heuerman are very talented and very good fits for the Ohio State offense.
