JJHuddle and Ohio High win awards in SPJ and OPSWA competitions

JJHuddle and Ohio High Magazine racked up another honor Thursday at the
Society of Professional Journalists Cincinnati Pro Chapter HOF and
Awards banquet in downtown Cincinnati. This comes on the heels of the
recently released results from the Ohio Prep Sports Writer’s
Association’s annual awards contest.

Cincinnati SPJ Awards

JJHuddle and Ohio High Managing Editor Eric Frantz was recognized by the Cincinnati SPJ as the “Best Sports Columnist” for work that appeared in 2009. It’s the second straight year Frantz has won the award. Frantz also finished second in “Overall Sports Coverage.”

The Cincinnati SPJ competition includes media in Southwestern Ohio and the Tri-State area (Kentucky and Indiana). Outlets include the Cincinnati Enquirer, Dayton Daily News, Cincinnati Post, Kentucky Enquirer and Kentucky Post among others.

OPSWA AWARDS

Frantz also earned multiple honors in the recent Ohio Prep Sports Writer’s Association awards contest. Frantz finished first in Division I in column writing and game coverage. He was second in the D-I Writer of the Year rankings.

The D-I category includes all the major newspapers in the state (Cleveland Plain Dealer, Cincinnati  Enquirer, Columbus Dispatch, Dayton Daily News, Toledo Blade and Akron Beacon Journal).

Former JJ staffer Matt Natali was the D-I Writer of the Year and finished first in news story.
