Friday from now until March 26, a new athlete will be released.

Today’s entry won 18 state titles…I’m not joking…

8. Alyssa Kiel, Gates Mills Hawken, Swimming, 2001-2005: No swimmer in state history has won more titles than Kiel who collected 18 during her career. She won seven individual titles (three in the 200 freestyle and four in the 500 freestyle), seven relay titles (three in 200 free and four in 400 free) and four team titles. Kiel’s time of 4:42.15 in the 500 free is still the ninth best time ever in the U.S. and just one of four D-II state records she still holds. Others include: the 200 free (1:48.80), 200 free relay (1:36.44) and 400 free relay (3:28.70).

Outside of high school, Kiel was a U.S. National Champion in 800 freestyle in 2004; was a recipient of High Point Award at the 2004 Summer Nationals; was seventh at the 2005 World Championship Trials in the 400 freestyle and fifth in the 800 freestyle; competed for the U.S. in the 2005 World University Games in Turkey; qualified for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials where she placed seventh in the 800 freestyle; and was also a member of the U.S. National Junior Team in 2002. She swam collegiately at Georgia.
