The
Central District tournament draw took place this past Sunday, and
Northland was on everyone’s mind – even those of teams in Cincinnati
and Dayton.

Of course, most teams were going to run away from
the Vikings and why not – they are the No.1 team in country. However,
the ripple effect it had on the other districts were monumental.

First off, in the Central District, Gahanna Lincoln got the No.2 seed
and chose to go in the Columbus 2 bracket after Northland went to
Columbus 3. The Vikings took the No. 3 bracket because that district
winner will meet the team coming up from one of the Dayton Districts.

That takes us to our next point, almost all of the top seeds in the
Southwest chose to stay in Dayton for regional play rather than jump in
the bracket that goes to Columbus. Most years that is the exact
opposite. The best Southwest D-1 team usually jumps at the chance to
come to the Fairgrounds Regional.

All things considered,
Lincoln got a pretty good draw. Some of the other top teams in the
Lions district are Westerville North, Columbus Brookhaven, Mount
Vernon, Reynoldsburg and Columbus Beechcroft. Lincoln has to be pleased.

On the flip side, the Columbus 1 District won’t be so kind to No.3 seed
Westerville South. The Wildcats will be joined by Upper Arlington,
Dublin Coffman and Columbus Marion-Franklin not to mention teams like
Pickerington Central, Hilliard Darby, Dublin Jerome, Delaware Hayens
and St.Charles.

The scariest team to us in Columbus 1 is
Marion-Franklin. The Red Devils certainly have the talent and ability
to make the regional, but can they put it together for three-straight
games? If you are looking for a sleeper pick don’t look any further
than M-F.

Northland will be joined by Pickerington North,
Olentangy Orange, Westerville Central, Hilliard Davidson, Independence,
Teays Valley, New Albany, Olentangy Liberty, Tri-Valley and a few
others. Those teams minus Northland would make for a competitive
sectional and district, however, toss in the boys in Green and they
become ‘that guy.’
