Covington has put together one of the more impressive resumes in D-VI
over the years with nine playoff trips in the last 10 seasons and 13
overall. The Buccs have also advanced to the second round of the
postseason for two years straight. Similar storylines should be in store for this season.

* Outlook –
The Buccs have put together one of the more impressive resumes in D-VI over the years with nine playoff trips in the last 10 seasons and 13 overall. Covington has also advanced to the second round of the postseason for two years straight. The Buccs started 2-2 last season, but won seven straight games before losing to Mechanicsburg in the regional semifinals.

Head coach Dave Miller returns for his third season and owns a 20-4 record at Covington. He should increase his win tally this season.

Clark is a dependable back that rushed for a team-high 1,190 yards and 18 TDs last season. Bitner had a stellar first season under center by rushing for 995 yards and 13 TDs. He also threw for 489 yards and five scores.

Defensively Hale is the top returner, having registered 65 tackles and three fumble recoveries last season. Christian (36.5 tackles), Meyer (31.5 tackles) and Boehringer (33.5 tackles) lend depth.

With a roster around 40, health will be a big issue for the Buccs who lost seven players to game-ending injuries last season and had 14 others miss at least one game.

“Our schedule in 2009 will be very challenging from start to finish beginning with a major test against MAC representative New Bremen,” Miller said. “Our conference will also be as strong top to bottom as I can remember in recent memory. Several teams return a large number of talented players, which will create tremendous competition on a weekly basis.”
