* Outlook –
After winning its eighth state title in 2007, Newark Catholic was denied a playoff berth and chance to defend it last year. The Green Wave is eager to get back to the dance.

“We return a very humble yet motivated senior class,” head coach Bill Franks (64-26 in eight years) said. “They have had great success in the offseason in basketball, wrestling, baseball and track and field. Our younger group has had a tremendous offseason, and are learning how to follow the example that is set for them.”

Hendershot is a good one to follow. A University of Toledo recruit, Hendershot also fielded offers from Indiana, Bowling Green, Toledo and Eastern Michigan. According to Franks, he’s not the only potential D-I player on the NC roster. The head coach also pointed to Harris, Adams and Cox as having the ability to play at the next level.

Overall, size will not be a problem for NC.

Schedule-wise, the Green Wave face a usual daunting opener in Amanda-Clearcreek (away) before opening Mid-State League competition that includes three D-III playoff teams from 2008 (Granville, Bexley and Licking Valley).

“Amanda Clearcreek is always a dog fight,” Franks said. “The MSL Ohio is always a strong league top to bottom. With three D-III playoff teams on the schedule, there are no off weeks. We must be fully prepared every time we step on the field.
