Edwards, a Division I first-team all-state player, had narrowed his college choices to three schools – Central Florida, Miami (Ohio) and Penn State – earlier this week. But, it still didn’t keep him from stressing.

In the end, Middletown coach Bob Ronai told Edwards he had to follow his heart – and it led him directly to Penn State. At 11:15 this morning, Edwards made it official by signing with the Big Ten program.

Edwards, a Division I first-team all-state selection, averaged 17.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.7 steals for the Middies last season. He was one of the state’s best players still uncommitted from the 2009 class.

“I think the Big Ten and Penn State’s style of play fits him real well,” Ronai said.
Edwards also had interest from Dayton, Oklahoma State and others.

Edwards finished seventh on Middletown’s all-time scoring list with 1,129 points.

“He’s been a great individual,” Ronai said. “As good of a player as he is, he is a better person. That’s why he’s been successful.”
