Miami Valley gets two teams to state gymnastics for first time in a decade

For the first time in over a decade, two teams from the Miami Valley will represent the Southwest District at the state gymnastics championships next weekend at Hilliard Darby High School.


For the first time in over a decade, two teams from the Miami Valley will represent the Southwest District at the state gymnastics championships next weekend at Hilliard Darby High School.

Saturday at the district meet hosted by Lakota East High School, Clayton Northmont won the team title with a score of 138.275, while Centerville came in second (137.675). Mason was third (136.750).

The Thunderbolts were paced by Jeanie Borda (fifth in bars, fifth in vault), Alexandra Pulos (sixth in bars), Kasi Turpin (sixth on beam) and Katherine Heinrichs (fifth on floor).

Centerville’s Becky Norviel powered the Elks by finishing first in the all-around and on the beam and second on the vault and bars. Teammate Colleen Mescher placed fourth in the all-around. She was also second on the beam.

Individual state qualifiers from the Dayton-area include Beavercreek’s Megan Gill (first in vault, first on floor), Miamisburg’s Chelsea Bartley (sixth in vault), Fairborn’s Kerry Donahue (third in bars, third on floor, fifth on beam) and Troy Christian’s Jacquelyn Trimbach (fourth on beam).
