Wayne sophomores have offers from Dayton, Akron and others

Huber Heights Wayne has long been a stop for big-time college football coaches looking for exceptional talent. Suddenly, basketball coaches are making their way to see the Warriors too. Wayne has two sophomores who have each received scholarship offers from Dayton, Wright State, Cleveland State and Akron. The list of schools interested in the duo is even longer.


Huber Heights Wayne has long been a stop for big-time college football coaches looking for exceptional talent.

Suddenly, basketball coaches are making their way to see the Warriors too.

Wayne has two sophomores – Travis Trice II and Markus Crider – who have each received scholarship offers from Dayton, Wright State, Cleveland State and Akron.

The list of schools interested in the duo is even longer.

Crider, a 6-6 forward, is also being courted by Ohio State, North Carolina, Xavier, Indiana, Minnesota, USC, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Butler among others.

Through three games, Crider had led the Warriors in scoring twice, assists twice and rebounding once. He’s averaging 12.3 points, 5 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 2 steals.

Against Kettering Fairmont, Crider had 18 points and eight boards. In a loss to Lebanon he registered 17 points and seven assists.

Trice, a 6-0 point guard, is also hearing from Ohio State, Xavier, Indiana, USC, Wisconsin, Illinois, Butler and Southern Illinois. Trice is averaging a team-high 14.7 points, 2.7 assists, 2.3 steals and 2 rebounds. He had 18 points and four assists against Fairmont.

Last year, with Trice and Crider playing significant minutes, Wayne finished 21-3 and earned a share of the GWOC Central Division title with Centerville. The Warriors lost to Cincinnati Withrow in the Division I regional semifinals.

Through three games this season Wayne is 2-1. The Warriors next take the court Friday at home against Springfield.
