Juniors Dan Schneider and Christian Pace, who helped lead Avon Lake to an 8-3 record this season, are drawing interest from many major colleges including Ohio State.

The 6-foot-4 and 230-pound Schneider started the entire season at tight end and half the season at defensive end. The Shoremen are a very run oriented team, but Schneider still caught 16 passes for 247 yards which led Avon Lake in both categories.  He scored twice.

“Northwestern has mentioned defensive end, but most of the schools are recruiting me as a tight end,” Schneider said.

Among the schools showing interest are Ohio State, Michigan State, Illinois, Iowa, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Maryland, Virginia, Alabama, Nebraska and most of the MAC schools.

“I’ve talked to Ohio State, Illinois and Michigan State,” Schneider said. “I talk to (Ohio State assistant) coach Taver Johnson every week on the phone.”

Schneider attended games this season at Ohio State, Illinois and Michigan State. He was in the Horseshoe when the Buckeyes defeated Michigan 42-7.

“It was very enjoyable,” Schneider said.  “It was good to meet coach (Jim) Tressel. It was good to get a look at things behind the scenes.”

The 6-foot-3 and 265-pound Pace was a varsity starter at left tackle his sophomore year and right tackle this season. He will likely move to guard or center in college.

Pace is receiving mail from many of the same schools as Schneider as well as Wisconsin, UCLA and Central Florida.

“Coach Johnson came to our school,” Pace said. “He said something about getting me down there for a bowl game practice.”

Like Schneider, Pace is definitely interested in Ohio State.

“They have one of the best programs in the country,” Pace said. “I went to camp there in the summer. I met the offensive line coach.  The facilities are really nice.”

Pace runs the 40-yard dash in 5.1 seconds. He bench presses 325 pounds and can squat over 400.
