Only one state final delivers a match up of undefeateds: Division V.
Findlay Liberty-Benton recorded the biggest postseason win in its history Saturday with a 35-0 victory over two-time defending state champion Maria Stein Marion Local at Findlay’s Donnell Stadium. The Eagle victory snapped the Flyers 13-game playoff win streak and was the first postseason loss for Marion against a non-MAC team since the 2003 D-VI state final (lost 28-26 to Columbus Grove).
L-B junior QB and Tennessee basketball recruit Aaron Craft rushed for 168 yards and three touchdowns and was 9-of-18 for 135 yards through the air. Craft rushed for 124 of his yards in the second half and scored twice in the third quarter.
The Flyers (11-3) became the 10th team this year to be shut out by the Eagles.
Youngstown Ursuline earned its second straight berth in the D-V final by beating Baltimore Liberty-Union 35-6 at New Philadelphia’s Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium.
Ursuline has been the No. 1 team in the ONN/Ohio High Power Poll all season, while L-B debuted at No. 3 and finished at No. 2.
