Both Eastmoor and Aurora will make their state championship debut Saturday when they square off for the D-III state title. Both teams are also making their sixth appearance in the postseason.

Aurora started the season 1-2 but has since won 11 straight, including a 20-14 win over defending state champion Sunbury Big Walnut on Saturday at Ashland’s Community Stadium.

Eastmoor, which beat last year’s state runner-up Newark Licking Valley 14-10 at Gahanna-Lincoln Stadium, is making noise after being left out of last year’s postseason dance despite a 9-1 record. This year the Warriors went 9-1 again and were the No. 4 seed.

Eastmoor is led by head coach Jim Miranda, who doubles as the Eastmoor girls basketball coach. Miranda led the Warriors girls basketball team to a runner-up finish at state in 2005 and the Final Four in 2007.
