D-II State Final: Defending champ Anderson will meet Southview

Three teams came into the state semifinals two wins shy of defending
their state championships. Friday, Cincinnati Anderson became the first
one to move one win closer. Sylvania Southview is all that stands in the Redskins way now.


Three teams came into the state semifinals two wins shy of defending their state championships. Friday, Cincinnati Anderson became the first one to move one win closer.

The Redskins (12-2) opened up a 14-0 third quarter lead and held on to beat DeSales 14-10 at Dayton’s Welcome Stadium. Anderson was led by RB Kyle Slater who had 256 yards and a TD on 39 carries. Slater now has 2,044 yards and 28 TDs on the season.

Anderson’s win avenged a 38-17 loss to DeSales at home in Week 4.

Undefeated Sylvania Southview (14-0) makes its second appearance in the state championship, thanks to a 31-0 shutout of Akron Hoban at Fremont’s Don Paul Stadium. Southview standout QB Alex Pidcock threw two TDs, while RB Michael Hehl ran for two.

The Cougars were state runner-up in 1999, when they lost 19-18 to Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit.
