Recruiters have been aware of Cleveland (Ohio) St. Ignatius junior linebacker Scott McVey since the end of last football season. McVey moved into the starting lineup the final five games of his sophomore season and established himself as a college prospect.
The 6-foot-1 and 220-pound McVey has had a great junior season. Playing outside linebacker, McVey has 11 sacks as Ignatius has won 11 of 12 games including a big playoff game win over previously undefeated Cleveland Glenville on Saturday night.
McVey was outstanding against the Tarblooders and many Ohio State fans, after watching the game, wondered if the Buckeyes are interested.
“I’ve been invited to Ohio State games,” McVey said. “I’ve been to games at Ohio State and Michigan, and I’ve been invited to games at Notre Dame, Indiana and Illinois.”
Many of Wildcats’ games are on Saturday’s so it is not easy for McVey to get to a lot of college games. But he did make it down to the Buckeyes’ opener against Youngstown State.
“I liked it a lot,” McVey said. “I liked how many people were at the game. I like the Ohio State coaches a lot. Ohio State has been my favorite school. I grew up watching them. Notre Dame would be second.”
McVey went into a little more detail in regards to who is recruiting him and who he is interested in.
“I like Ohio State, Boston College a little, Notre Dame, Illinois a little and some MAC schools,” McVey said. “My three favorites are probably Ohio State, Notre Dame and Boston College.”
McVey, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, is also on the St. Ignatius track team. He runs the hurdles and relays. McVey is in good shape academically with a 3.2 GPA.
