Hamilton senior linebacker Denicos Allen made an oral commitment to play at Michigan State.

Allen (6-0, 205) was one of the state’s top uncommitted players in the 2009 class until today.

Allen also considered Cincinnati, Illinois and Wisconsin. He had scheduled an official visit to Madison this weekend, but canceled the trip, according to Hamilton coach Jim Place.

Allen, who leads the GMC with 5.5 sacks, is rated the No. 13 best player in the 2009 class by Ohio High Magazine.

“His instincts are second to none,” Ohio High Magazine recruiting editor Duane Long wrote in a scouting report. “Allen reads and reacts to plays before they develop and has the speed to get there and make the play – and does he ever make plays.”

Allen has a team-high 58.5 tackles for the Big Blue (5-2, 3-1 GMC). Allen also has two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.

“Allen has one of the longest highlight tapes of the year,” Long wrote. “He is such a great tackler.”

Hamilton, which lost to Cincinnati Princeton 16-0 last week, plays at Cincinnati Oak Hills Friday night.

Hamilton, which hasn’t had a playoff appearance since 2001, is currently ninth in the Joe Eitel unofficial Harbin ratings for Region 4 of Division I.
