Back-to-back 3-7 seasons doesn’t exactly sound like setting the
table for greatness, but that’s just what Willow Wood Symmes Valley is
hoping for. After four straight playoff appearances from 2002-2005, the
Vikings slipped to 6-14 overall the last two years. The slide was due
in part to playing a lot of young players according to head coach Rusty
Webb. Now, according to the coach, it’s time for those lumps to pay off.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

LB Cody Bland (Sr.), OL/DL Jesse Hill (6-2, 270, Jr.), OL Cory Hakes (5-10, 300, Jr.), OL Billy Bloomfield (6-2, 285, Jr.), SE/DB Ethan Wilson (Sr.), QB/DL Kyle Bowen (5-10, 185, Jr.)

SEASON OUTLOOK

2007 Record: 3-7

Back-to-back 3-7 seasons doesn’t exactly sound like setting the table for greatness, but that’s just what Willow Wood Symmes Valley is hoping for.

After four straight playoff appearances from 2002-2005, the Vikings slipped to 6-14 overall the last two years. The slide was due in part to playing a lot of young players according to head coach Rusty Webb. Now, according to the coach, it’s time for those lumps to pay off.

“We feel good about the upcoming season,” Webb said. “The last two seasons we have played a lot of young players and we’re hopeful that the playing time they received will pay off this season. We only have five seniors so we will be counting on a lot of juniors and sophomores to step up.”

Senior Cody Bland returns at linebacker where he registered 137 tackles last season.

Also expected to make significant contributions are senior Ethan Wilson (WR/DB) and juniors Jesse Hill (OL/DL), Cory Hakes (OL), Billy Bloomfield (OL) and Kyle Bowen. (QB/DL).

Hill (6-2, 270), Hakes (5-10, 300) and Bloomfield (6-2, 285) provide SV with some notable size in the trenches.

SV will play its usual Southern Ohio Conference schedule and has tough games with Sciotovillle Community School (Week 7) and Portsmouth Notre Dame (Week 9) on the road. The Vikings do host Oak Hill (Week 8).

“We lost three games last season in the final minute of the fourth quarter,” Webb said. “This year we want to finish.”
