Cincinnati Elder Volleyball Team Continues To Roll

Cincinnati Elder continues to dominate the Southwest Region this
spring. The Panthers won the Centerville Elite tournament title
Saturday (April 26) with a 25-16, 25-17, 25-17 win over Greater
Catholic League rival Cincinnati St. Xavier in the finals. Ohio's top-ranked team, Elder is now 17-0 and ranked No. 3 nationally.


Cincinnati Elder continues to dominate the Southwest Region this spring. The Panthers won the Centerville Elite tournament title Saturday (April 26) with a 25-16, 25-17, 25-17 win over Greater Catholic League rival Cincinnati St. Xavier in the finals.

Senior outside hitter Andrew Wessels had 11 kills, three blocks and eight digs while senior middle hitter Rob Malone had seven kills, an ace and three blocks to lead Elder.

The Panthers (17-0) also had wins over Walsh Jesuit (25-17, 25-14 and 25-19) and Hilliard Darby (25-12, 17-25, 25-11 and 25-17) at Centerville.

Elder, which is ranked No. 1 in the Division I state coaches’ poll, won its 14th match Friday when it defeated Chaminade-Julienne 25-19, 25-9, 25-11.

Wessels led the Panthers with 12 kills and four digs in that match. Middle hitter Jake Neiheisel had seven kills and six blocks. Malone added six kills and two blocks.

The Panthers, ranked No. 3 nationally by StudentSportsVolleyball.com, play at Cincinnati Roger Bacon at 7 p.m. Tuesday (today) and then host Mason at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
