One of the key members of Ohio State’s 2008 men’s basketball recruiting class is Canal Winchester, Ohio, center B.J. Mullens.
The 7-1 Mullens has enjoyed a big senior year for the Indians, which are 18-2 as they head into Division II sectional tournament action.
Mullens averaged 26.2 points, 14.6 rebounds and hit 70.2 percent of his shots.
There is talk that he and fellow OSU signee William Buford of Toledo Libbey will be selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American Game, set for March 26 at Milwaukee’s Bradley Center.
Mullens enjoyed two huge games during the course of the regular season. He matched the school record of 46 points in a Jan. 19 win over Mid-State League rival Lancaster Fairfield Union.
But that was just a warm-up for what came on Jan. 22. Playing against Centereach (N.Y.) Our Savior New American at the Flyin’ to the Hoop event in Kettering, Ohio, Mullens broke loose for 62 points and 21 rebounds in a 79-69 win. He had 36 of his team’s 38 points in the first half. He ended up 28 of 34 from the floor (82 percent).
