The Akron East girls basketball team secured its first winning
season since the 2000-01 campaign on Monday with a 59-44 win over Akron
Garfield. East was led by junior Aslea Williams who had 22 points and 20 rebounds. She also added three blocked shots. East, which is 9-2 in its last 11 games, is now 11-7 overall and 7-5 in
the Akron City Series. Last year the Orientals were 8-11 and 5-7.


The Akron East girls basketball team secured its first winning season since the 2000-01 campaign on Monday with a 59-44 win over Akron Garfield.

East was led by senior Aslea Williams who had 22 points and 20 rebounds. She also added three blocked shots.

Other key contributors for the Orientals were junior Justina Gavin (16 points) and senior Taryn Wicks (10 points, nine assists and five rebounds).

East, which is 9-2 in its last 11 games, is now 11-7 overall and 7-5 in the Akron City Series. Last year the Orientals were 8-11 and 5-7.

On the season, Williams is averaging 17.7 points and 13.1 rebounds. Wicks is averaging 10.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists.
