Sidney Lehman Catholic made the Division IV regional semifinals last season, but this year, the Cavaliers have set their goals a little higher. Going to Columbus for the state tournament is not out of the question.

Lehman returns two All-Ohio players in seniors Jessica Slagle and Sarah Freytag. Slagle, a Bowling Green recruit, is a 5-10 point guard who averaged 14 points and 5 rebounds a game last season. Freytag is a 5-10 forward who averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds.

Both players should reach 1,000 career points early in the season.

In addition to those two. Lehman will reply heavily on sophomore guard Brooke Vanover (5-8) who averaged 7 points.

“We hope to pick up where we left off last year,” Lehman coach Greg Noftz said. “It should be another good year here if our young players pick up the system quickly. With two returning All-Ohio players it could be another exciting season.”

The Cavaliers face a daunting schedule littered with Midwest Athletic Conference and Shelby County League teams.

“We cannot afford to taker any nights off,” Noftz said. ‘We must play with consistency night-in and night-out.”
