Toledo Central Catholic wins school’s first volleyball state title

Toledo Central Catholic claimed the school’s first volleyball state
title on Saturday with a convincing 25-19, 26-24 and 25-17 three-game
sweep of Columbus Bishop Hartley in the Division II state championship
at Wright State University’s Nutter Center. TCC, which was down 0-2 to Salem in Friday’s semifinals, won their final five games at state.


FAIRBORN – Toledo Central Catholic claimed the school’s first volleyball state title on Saturday with a convincing 25-19, 26-24 and 25-17 three-game sweep of Columbus Bishop Hartley in the Division II state championship at Wright State University’s Nutter Center.

The Irish controlled play in the first and last games and fought back from a 12-7 deficit to win Game 2, which featured 11 ties and three lead changes.

TCC, which was down 0-2 to Salem in Friday’s semifinals, won their final five games at state.

The Irish also made appearances in the state final four in 1995 and 1997.

Senior Ashley Frazier led TCC with 15 kills, while senior Amanda Arnold added 10 kills and a game-high 22 assists. Senior Kelsey Gerken added 19 assists.

Hartley, playing in its first state tournament, was paced by senior Teresa Trucco who had 11 kills.

Both teams finish with identical 24-5 records.
