When football fans last saw Michael Shaw he was racing down the sideline at Massillon’s Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in the Division III state championship game for Alter High School. This season if Shaw gets back to Stark County he’ll do so in D-II. Alter didn’t move up. Shaw moved out.

Now a student at Trotwood-Madison, Shaw will star for the Rams. And Saturday he announced he’ll continue his career next season at Penn State.

Michigan, Tennessee and West Virginia were Shaw’s other top choices. Shaw had 28 offers overall.

Since transferring mid-school year, Shaw has won a state and national title in track as a member of the Rams 1,600-meter relay team. His speed has attracted attention.

Ranked by multiple recruiting services among the nation and region’s best running backs, Shaw is ranked the 14th overall player and No. 3 “athlete” in Ohio by Ohio High Magazine.

During last year’s 34-33 state title game loss to Steubenville, Shaw had 140 total yards and two touchdowns, including a 42-yard run and a 50-yard reception.

Shaw joins Trotwood teammates Brandon Moore (Michigan), Douglass Rippy (Nebraska), Roy Roundtree (Purdue) and Dimonick Britt (Cincinnati) as NCAA D-I recruits this season.

Two of his future Penn State teammates are Youngstown Cardinal Mooney seniors Brandon Beachum and Michael Zordich.
