No Division II team in Southwest Ohio has had more sustained success since 2000 than Carroll. And the Patriots don’t expect to stop their momentum.

With 65 wins and six straight playoff appearances – including back-to-back state semifinal appearances in 2004 and 2005 – Carroll is primed for another postseason run.

The Patriots return 14 starters from last year’s team.

“We’re looking to carry on the Carroll tradition,” head coach Steve Bartlett said.

“Carroll Tradition” means ball control offense and stingy defense. The Pats have the means to execute both again.

Defensively Carroll returns a pair of first team Greater Catholic League selections in seniors Sean Jansen (defensive line) and Scott Shear (linebacker). Senior linebacker Nick Herrin was second team GCL.

On offense, junior Dave McComas (second team GCL) takes over for his brother Eric, while Adam Fearing will also get his share of carries. McComas was third in the GCL North in rushing yards last season with 1,029. He also tallied 11 touchdowns, including three at West Carrollton. Fearing added 586 yards and four TDs.

As a team, the Patriots averaged 324 yards per game on the ground.

Receiver Evan Daubenmire (12 catches, 238 yards, three TDs) was second team GCL a year ago.

Other key returners are Nate Scheidt, Mike Manfreda, Anthony Matheson, Mike Escobar and Cory Sorice.

Overall Carroll has been to the postseason seven times in the last eight years.
