2006 Record: 12-1
Ashland enjoyed the best season in school history in 2006 with 12 straight wins and a No. 1 seed in the Division II, Region 6 playoffs. The Arrows finished the season with a 12-1 record under head coach Scott Valentine.
This year, only five starters return for Ashland, but overall the Arrows are expected to be a tough team once again. Quarterback Taylor Housewright (6-3, 195, Sr.) is being recruited by Mid-American Conference schools and he is one of the top signal-callers in the state. Last season, Housewright threw for 2,215 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions. The well-rounded QB added 548 rushing yards and seven scores.
Another player Valentine is excited about is defensive tackle Cody Fast (6-1, 235, Jr.). He is still growing (expected to be 6-4 by the time he graduates) and will anchor the defensive line as a second-year starter.
Other players to watch for Ashland include: WR/FS Tyler McFarland (6-0, 180, Sr.), RB/CB Logan Kerr (5-11, 170, Sr.), and OG Drew James (5-11, 260, Sr.).
“From our standpoint, we lost 26 seniors, but we hope our program is at the point where we can fill the voids,” Valentine said. “As always, we want to repeat as league champs. We’ll take it one game at a time and hope when we look up we’re in the playoffs.”
