South will be running the spread offense for a second year and Daniska feels the familiarity should be a big plus, especially for junior quarterback Matthew Trissel. Trissel helped lead South past Newark Licking Valley, 27-17, in the first round of the regional playoffs.
“One of the biggest keys is that this will be the second year running the spread offense,” Daniska said. “We had a lot of young guys in the system last year so they should all be a little more comfortable with the system, especially Matthew. The return of our QB and several skill position players should be positives.
“We do have a young offensive line as we only have one starter back. The linebacking corps will be the strength of our defense. Overall, our defense should be the strength of our team. We had a lot of underclassmen play last year. Both cornerbacks, most of the linebackers and several kids who started are back on the line.
“For us to be successful this year, we need the young guys to step up. As our young line comes together, we should be competitive. We do play in one of the toughest D-III conferences in the state. However, there is a lot of excitement in the program right now because of last year and we want to keep it going.”
