FB/LB Kirk Wetherell (5-11, 205, Sr.), WR/DB Robert Wilson (6-0, 175, Sr.), RB/LB Chad Teague (5-10, 190, Sr.), OT/DT Ryan McClelland (6-0, 275)
11-1, 7-0 East Central Ohio League champs; lost to Dover, 42-9, in regional semifinals)
Goodrich, who enters his ninth campaign with the Bobcats, has built Cambridge into a recognized and respected football program in his eight years so fans could see preseason question marks turn into strengths by the time the ’Cats hit East Central Ohio League play in Week 4.
“We have a lot of question marks this season,” Goodrich began. “Are we going to dominate like we did last year? To be truthful the answer is no. You can’t build an entire offense around a tackle (McClelland). We’re going to be young and inexperienced, but we hope that a lot of the young kids step up and respond like veterans. Just because we are young, it doesn’t mean that we won’t be good. We have some kids that can play, but you never know how things will turn out.”
Despite losing nine offensive starters and the aforementioned 24 seniors to graduation, Goody said his team has the same expectations this season.
“We have the same three goals…to be 1-0 at the end of each week, to be ECOL champs and to be in the playoffs. We are capable of beating the teams on our schedule, but we’re going to have to spread the ball around as we don’t have one superstar.”
Teague, Wetherell and Wilson will be three of the players the Bobcats try to get the ball to. A big positive is that there is still one very good holdover from the offensive line (McClelland).
