Several coaches have tabbed Big Walnut as one of the favorites in D-III, but the schedule will either make or break the Golden Eagles.
“Obviously, our schedule will be tough,” Wetzel commented. “Four of our five non-league games are against D-I teams and the other is against Chillicothe.
Also, our league is basically all Division II schools. Our goal is to just get into the playoffs with our schedule. The kids got a big taste of success last year, but they know that there is a lot of work to be done this season to play an 11th game.”
Not only will Coach Wetzel rely on his son Ethan, Suvak and Nelson for senior leadership, but Hogg, Jones, Wolfe, Hubbard and Reed will also be counted on.
“We have tremendous senior leadership and return nine starters on the defensive side of the ball, so those should be big strengths,” Wetzel noted.
“We do have some holes on the offensive side of the ball and that is a concern. We played so many kids both ways and to have any type of a similar season…we have to develop the same kind of depth. The good thing is that we’ll have more kids on the field this year than we did last year. We still will have to stay injury free.”
