Bellefontaine Chieftains ‘expecting more out of themselves’ this season

Bellefontaine Chieftains
With a pair of returning speedsters – senior RB/CB Sean Egler and senior QB/DB Keith Morgan, who are both being looked at by Mid-American Conference schools as well as Purdue, Northwestern and Illinois – Bellefontaine should definitely be much-improved this year under fifth-year head coach Jason Brown.

RB/CB Sean Egler (5-10, 180, Sr.), QB/DB Keith Morgan (6-1, 200, Sr.), OT/DT Colin Rockhold (6-5, 245, Sr.), TE/DE Trace Robb (6-2, 220, Sr.), DE Mitch Wren (6-1, 185, Sr.), RB Conner Hill (5-9, 170, Sr.), WR/DB Zach Mosbarger (5-10, 175, Jr.), OT/DT Zach Vermillion (6-4, 230, Jr.)

2006 Record: 5-5, 2-3 Central Buckeye Conference

The state-qualifying (track) duo of Egler and Morgan rushed for over a combined 2,800 yards in 2006. With Egler, an all-Ohio special mention player the past two seasons, and Morgan in the same backfield, opponents should have a hard time shutting down both of the talented runners. Brown said that Morgan has been clocked at 4.46 in the 40-yard dash.

Brown agreed that the offense should be fun to watch when it takes the gridiron this fall, but execution will be a key.

“We return a ton of players on offense, including Egler, who rushed for over 1,600 yards last year, and Morgan, who rushed for over 1,200 yards. We feel good about our offensive scheme because as I said, we have a lot of returning players on offense. We just have to utilize our strengths.”

After missing out on the postseason while turning in a sub-.500 record in the CBC one year ago, Brown feels his team should carry a bit of a chip on it shoulder this year as it tries to get back to the winning level Bellefontaine is used to.

“The expectations are much higher this year,” Brown stated. “They kids expect more out of themselves and the coaches are expecting more out of the program. We’re really focusing on getting the Chieftains back to where we need to be. We have a strong tradition here and we want to get back to the playoffs this year.

“We should have a very exciting team. We’re all just looking to raise the bar this season,” Brown added.
