There will be a definite big-time college football flavor in the Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division this fall.

Troy offensive lineman Jake Current committed to Wisconsin over the weekend to give the division four early college commits. Current joins the Trotwood-Madison trio of Dominick Britt, QB (Cincinnati); Brandon Moore, TE (Michigan); and  Roy Roundtree, WR (Purdue) as early verbals.

In addition to Troy and Trotwood, Northmont has at least five players that could sign with Division I colleges, including OT Zebrie Sanders, WR Nate Wilburn-Ogletree, LB Josh Newman and DB Darren Youngberg. Defending Division II state champion Piqua also has some solid recruits, including QB Justin Hemm.

Current gave Badgers head coach Brett Bielema and offensive line coach Bob Palcic his commitment late Saturday according to a story published in the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal.

Current told the Sentinel Journal: “Wisconsin had everything I'm looking for.”

A two-time first team Greater Western Ohio Conference pick, Current also had offers from Indiana, Maryland, Oklahoma State, Miami (Ohio), Western Michigan, Air Force and Cincinnati.

Current (6-3, 275) is the son of Miami East coach Max Current II.

“Being a coach's kid, football is the only thing you know how to do,” Current told the Sentinel Journal. “He never taught me to change the oil, and if a tire goes flat, I don't know how to change it. But when I was a little boy I'd go to practice and follow him around.”
